AHFA Mourns Death of Board Member Peter M. Weiss

December 02, 2019

AHFA Board member, architect, and educator Peter M. Weiss passed away November 25.

Weiss served on AHFA’s board of directors for nearly five years. His wise counsel and enthusiasm for architecture, building sciences, and historic preservation will be missed. Prior to his term as a board member, Weiss assisted in crafting the design quality standards to which all AHFA-financed affordable housing developments must adhere.

A native of Iowa, Weiss become a professor in the College of Architecture, Department of Building Science, at Auburn University in 1983. He taught classes in structural design from then until his retirement in 2016. Weiss had a special interest in historic preservation and involved his students in preservation projects across Auburn, Opelika, and Tuskegee. He counted among his architectural design accomplishments the campus of SIAS University near Zhengzhou, China, and the Veterans Memorial Monument in Opelika.

The Board and staff of AHFA extend sincere sympathies to the family of Peter Weiss and express gratitude for his faithful service and valuable friendship.
