Grand Opening Held for The Villas at Titusville

A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was held November 15 for the Villas at Titusville, a new high-quality affordable housing development that is part of the redevelopment of Birmingham's Loveman Village.

“Hollyhand Development is committed to quality affordable housing. We are honored to be a partner in the redevelopment of Loveman Village, which is a positive step towards the transformation of the Titusville neighborhood,” said Marcella Roberts, vice president of development at Hollyhand Development.

The ribbon-cutting marked the completion of the first phase and involved 100 units. There will be 164 units, a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

“The mission of the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District expands beyond providing housing for families,” said HABD President and CEO Michael Lundy. “We strive to give our residents the tools to succeed on their own so that they can eventually own their own homes. Because as beautiful as the Villas at Titusville is, it is meant to serve as a way station, not a permanent destination. When families can succeed on their own, we all win.”

The group also officially broke ground on the second phase of development, which is expected to provide an additional 64 units of affordable, safe and attractive housing.

AHFA Executive Director Robert Strickland said, "The Loveman Redevelopment is a testament to how a collaborative effort between private and public sectors can transform communities. It is because of that collaboration and the need for affordable housing in Birmingham that AHFA has been involved in this ongoing redevelopment, starting with providing financing for The Park at Sydney Drive, which opened in December 2018. We also approved more than $1.6 million in Housing Credits for this first phase of the Villas at Titusville, as well as $10 million in bonds for the upcoming second phase of the Villas."

AHFA administers multifamily programs to create affordable rental housing by providing funding and tax incentives that help developers build or rehabilitate properties for Alabama’s low-income families.
