Help for Renters:

In 2021, AHFA accepted designation as Alabama’s grantee for $263 million in federal COVID-19 emergency rental assistance funds enacted in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Alabama began accepting applications from landlords and tenants on March 1, 2021. Eligible households must have earned no more than 80 percent of area median income and faced hardships related to COVID-19.

Help for Homeowners:

Mortgage Assistance Alabama (MAA) is a federally funded foreclosure prevention program designed to assist homeowners affected by COVID-19 after January 21, 2020. The U.S. Department of Treasury provided $125.6 million in funding through the Homeowners Assistance Fund established under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
