Barbara Butts, manager of Shellbrooke Pointe Apartments in Fairhope, was recently honored as the Alabama Housing Finance Authority’s 2018 Manager of the Year.
As manager, Butts oversees the daily operations of the development’s 96 affordable housing units. She has more than 30 years in the rental housing industry and has been with Gateway Management for more than seven years.
In its 21st year, the Manager of the Year award recognizes outstanding management staff at AHFA-funded multifamily housing developments. Nominees were evaluated on tenant relations, experience and education, the complex’s curb appeal, and AHFA program compliance.
“This award is an opportunity for us to show our appreciation for the hard work of managers like Barbara,” said AHFA Executive Director Robert Strickland. “The AHFA board and staff are proud to honor such dedicated individuals.”
Gateway Management nominated Butts for the award she received during a May 24 presentation.
“Barbara strives to create an exceptional positive living experience for our residents, and under her leadership, Shellbrooke Pointe Apartments, as well as Barbara, have won record breaking awards for our entire organization,” said Sandy Bullard, Gateway’s regional property manager. “She is a committed property manager and is truly a great asset to our organization, to her property, and more importantly, to the residents who adore her.”
Butts’ nomination package was filled with letters from residents, team members, peers, several social service agencies, and city officials and leaders in the community such as the probate judge of Baldwin County, the executive director of the Foley Housing Authority, the mayor of Fairhope, and the chief of police of the city of Fairhope. Letters supporting Butts’ nomination commended her fair, caring, and compassionate service; the abundance of resident activities; her mentoring work with other property managers; and her excellent record keeping skills to ensure compliance with AHFA and federal requirements.
