AHFA and Habitat Help Family Put Down Roots
Posted on February 5, 2025
When Greg and Debbie Davis’ family needed more room to grow than their mobile home could provide, they searched for a house, but found prices were higher than they could afford.
Then Greg, a carpenter, heard about Habitat for Humanity from a customer. In cooperation with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, Greg and Debbie found and purchased their own land to speed the arduous application and approval process along.
“It's a great feeling,” said Greg. “It was very hard for us. It was a dream we thought would never come true. I never did believe that it would happen.”
Soon after construction was finished, Greg and Debbie found that their family of five – with children Josh, 9, Gabby, 8, and Ariana, 6 – would expand once more to include Elijah, now 16 months old. Greg started planning a little remodeling. “He’s the reason we added the room in the garage,” said Greg. But Greg didn’t stop with just one room – he is now working on adding a family room. “It’s easier for me because I’m a carpenter,” said Greg. “I can do little things and it doesn’t cost as much.”
