AHFA staff recently visited with retiree Barbara Wallace, who served as multifamily manager until December 2021, at the 34th annual Alabama Affordable Housing Association (AAHA) conference.
Barbara was honored in 2022 by the AAHA Board of Directors for her contributions to affordable housing with a scholarship named for her. She continues to mentor Aimelis Gonzalez-Perez, the first recipient of the Barbara Wallace Scholarship, who currently attends Enterprise State Community College.
During her tenure with AHFA, Barbara provided critical oversight and expertise regarding the development of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, HOME and other key multifamily programs. She worked diligently to develop and perfect the allocation process for each multifamily application cycle, conduct public hearings and coordinate an annual summary of participation, and refine her expertise further by developing lifelong professional relationships with national affordable housing experts.
These days, Barbara enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering with Montgomery Area Non-Traditional Equestrians (MANE).
