Construction Begins on 50-Unit Community in Mobile
Posted on February 2, 2026
Affordable housing in Mobile marked a significant milestone on January 20. AHFA celebrated the groundbreaking of Fred Marshall Court, a development that will bring much‑needed senior housing to the area.
AHFA has awarded $980,840 resulting in an estimated equity infusion of $8.4 million in Housing Credits to support the construction of this 50‑unit community for residents aged 55 and older. The development will feature cottage‑style homes and will be built on the historic former site of St. Mary’s Orphanage.
“This project represents more than new construction,” said AHFA Multifamily Administrator David Young. “It marks the first affordable housing development in Council District 1 in more than five decades, signaling renewed investment and long‑term commitment to expanding housing opportunities in Mobile.”
