PARTNERSHIP

The AHFA-Habitat for Humanity Loan Purchase Program is a statewide collaboration between the Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) and local Habitat for Humanity affiliates.

HISTORY

Since March 1992, AHFA has committed more than $32.8 million to the loan purchase program for a total of 599 Habitat loans. This program allows AHFA to purchase mortgage loans from Alabama’s Habitat affiliates which provides the affiliates with a lump sum amount that can be used to build additional housing for eligible homebuyers.

MOMENTUM

Habitat affiliates interested in participating in the loan purchase program must be in good standing with Habitat for Humanity International, function as an active affiliate in good standing with the national organization, and submit the required Due Diligence package for AHFA review and approval.

Habitat for Humanity Partnership Explained

Supporting Alabama’s local Habitat for Humanity affiliates is one way that AHFA helps families achieve their dreams of homeownership.

In our latest video, Savannah Stephens, program specialist at Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County, shares how her affiliate was formed, the impactful work they’re doing to provide affordable housing, and the life-changing experience of being involved in the building process.

Stephens also highlights the role that AHFA plays in making her work possible. Since 1992, we have purchased hundreds of loans to enable Baldwin County and other affiliates to recoup their costs and keep building safe, affordable homes for our state’s citizens in need.
